A long time ago, in a galaxy not so very far away (actually what I’m going to talk about happened on this planet) there was a place where the internet did not exist. The internet which pertains to the interconnections of almost all the computers and devices (as long as they are capable to connect to the internet) is something that we cannot even fathom if we didn’t have such technology right now. What good would this article that I’m writing right now if there was no internet? How would I know what would the weather be like tomorrow if it wasn’t for the internet? How would I be sure of the route and the traffic I’m going to take later if I cannot look it up in the internet?
Folks we have, for some years now officially crossed the line where the internet is almost just as important as our basic necessities namely food and water. When was the last time you stayed in a house that does not have any access to the internet one way or another? I bet you didn’t last long in it. If you – a normal individual cannot even bare the situation where the internet is missing, how much more agony is it for businesses back then. Can you imagine?
- No video conferencing
- No online marketing
- Customer service is limited only by phone
- Lead generation was arduous
- No email
- I won’t even start to mention research
Above are just some of the things we have to keep in mind in order to have a picture of the state of business back then. Obviously they were able to manage at that time by doing their jobs with much more effort because of inefficiencies.
Now let’s move forward into the present. Companies on this age now have the power of the internet at their disposal. It has revolutionized mainly their marketing and communication making them able to do more complex jobs at lesser times. In fact there are so many aspects of a business being affected by the internet right now that in order for one to have a good enough grasp on it he need to read a book all about it.
Arguably the most important part of the internet is social media. Because of its important, it’s not surprising anymore at this age to find a social media book on top of every competent business owner leading his company to glory.
Social media has done such a wonderful job of spreading the word. Not only does it now handle the business to customer marketing of a company but it also handles the business to business side of the fence. Now all a company has to do is to create a page on a popular social networking site and its reach has just widened to the range of the whole world. Imagine doing that through a telephone. Every time a business now wants to launch a product or service, tell people of discounts or promos and inform every one of their changes, guess which platform do they rely to convey these messages?
